Mr. Pharris LaDon Martin, 77, of Crossett, died Sunday October 3, 2010 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mr. Martin was a native of Johnsville and a resident of Crossett for the past 61 years. He attended school at the Vick High School and he was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a barber for over 50 years and was a member of the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to hunt, fish, work in his garden and looked forward to the Martin Family reunions.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Gifford Martin in 2000; his parents, Gill & Estelle McClain Martin; three brothers, Quinton, Lamar & Luther Martin and a sister, Geraldine Long.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Young Batterton Martin of Crossett; a son, Phillip Martin of Fountain Hill; three daughters, Dona Tanksley and husband, Willie, of Stuttgart, Kelly Melanson of Crossett, Penny Brown and husband, Rodney, of Crossett; two step-daughters, Penny Breedlove and husband, Jerry, of Hamburg and Phyllis Rawls and husband, Tommy, of Crossett; four brothers, Allen Martin of Crossett, Vance Martin of Tomball, Texas, Lavert Martin of Cleveland, Texas and Travis Martin of Columbia, Louisiana; three sisters, Ella Quita Spears of Camden, Ruth Potts of Pearland, Texas and Shirley Robinson of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Richie & Brad Tanksley, Dillon & Logan Melanson, Patric & Cole Howie and Jarrod Martin; a great-grand child, Ty Eric Tanksley; eight step-grandchildren, nine step great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Lacey Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, 803 Ashley 95 Road, Hamburg, AR 71646.
