Bess Evans Womack, 78, of El Dorado, AR beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend went peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, December 16, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston, TX.
Bess was born on December 16, 1935, in Thornton, AR. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and caregiver of 57 years, A.D. Womack; parents, Woodrow and Trudie Evans; and brother, Jerry Evans.
Survivors include her daughter, Mitzi (Craig) Matthews of League City, TX; two sons, David (Amy) Womack of El Dorado, AR, John (Margarette) Womack of West Monroe, LA; and brother, Landall Evans of Bearden, AR. Bess was a loving Mimi to six grandchildren, Natasha, Daniel, Jeffery, Megan, Lauren, Sara; and nine great grandchildren.
Bess was self-employed for many years. She owned and operated The Drapery Shop until her retirement. Her outstanding craftsmanship as a seamstress has graced many homes and businesses throughout El Dorado. She also enjoyed cross stitching and quilting.
As a homemaker, Bess will always be remembered for her excellent cooking skills. One of her greatest pleasures was cooking for family and friends, especially during the holidays or any special occasion. She always had something on hand for everyone at all times and no one ever left her home hungry.
Together Bess and A.D. enjoyed traveling and one of their favorite destinations was Branson, Missouri. They also attended and enjoyed the fellowship of their friends at Mt. Union Baptist Church. Bess’s endless love of family and friends defined her life.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 Thursday, December 19, 2013, at Young’s.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2013, at Young’s Chapel with Bro. Paul Sheets officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.
