A Funeral service for Lorene (Lori) Margaret Vestal of Mountain Home, Arkansas, will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at Kirby & Family Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 1:00 pm until service time.
Lorene (Lori) Margaret Vestal passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri at 3:50 p.m., December 6, 2012. She was 90 years old. She was born Lorene Margaret Mastin in Corydon, Iowa, on January 17, 1922, into a family of eight children, 3 brothers, Elmer, James and William Lee and five sisters, Alberta, Kathrine, Betty, Shirley and Cora Mae.
As a teenager she worked at a cafe in Lineville, Iowa. She married Orville Dewey Harper, Sr. in 1938. He passed away in 1960. She married Donald M. Vestal in September of 1961. They were married 51 years in September 2012.
In the 30's, 40's and 50's she taught Hawaiian guitar and accordion to many students in Iowa and South Dakota. She enjoyed playing her Hawaiian and Dobro guitars at the Mountain Home Senior Center on Friday nights.
Lori was awarded her 50 year certificate honoring her for 50 years of service in the Order of the Eastern Star of the Grand Chapter of South Dakota of Vesta Chapter #1, Watertown, South Dakota. She moved to Mountain Home with her husband Don in 1991 and enjoyed living there.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles David Harper of Duluth, MN and Douglas Montgomery Harper of Perham, MN.
She has two daughters and a son living. Edythe L. Boadwine of Sioux Falls, SD, Bonnie Blue Disselbret of Park Rapids, MN and Bruce Hiram Harper of Springfield, MO. She also has one stepson, Orville Dewey Harper, Jr. of Two Harbors, MN and many, many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
She loved being entertained by her two dogs, Caesar and Tiger and her cockatiel, Sweetie Pie.
She always said material things don't mean anything. Joy is where the heart is.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of North Central Arkansas.
Burial will be in the Kirby's Tucker Memorial Cemetery, Mountain Home, Arkansas.
