Mrs. Lula I Slaughter, 75, died at her home, 8061/2 S. Jackson Ave., Monday at 10:15 p.m. after a long illness. Mrs. Slaughter was born in Union County May 9, 1889, the daughter of Will and Addie Fitzgerald Lewis. The widow of Mrs. N. B. Slaughter, she was a lifelong resident of the county and a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Annie Hembree and Mrs. Willie Smith, both of El Dorado; two nieces whom she reared, Mrs. Willie Mae Monroe of El Dorado and Mrs. Audrey Tillman of Kenner, La.; and several other nieces and nephews. Funeral services have been announced for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Erling Saxelid officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. The body will remain at the mortuary until an hour before the funeral. (The El Dorado News - September 22, 1964)
