Leo Humphreys, 95, of Clinton passed away Sunday April 13, 2014.

He was born November 20, 1918, the third son of Richard M. Humphreys and Anna Pearl Stachey.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delora Qualls Humphreys; his daughter, Conie S. Reamey of Clinton; and sister, Jessie Pearl Blocker of Hot Springs. As Papa, he nurtured three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Leo served in the Civilian Conservation Corp during the period 1938-40 and was stationed at Pierce, Idaho. He joined the Army Air Corp in August 1941. After completing the A & E Course in 1942, he was assigned to a crew and transitioned to Northern Australia and Port Moresby, New Guinea. He flew 38 missions as Flight Engineer and Top Turret Gunner. On a bombing run on a cargo ship in Hansa Bay, the crew scored two direct hits sinking the ship. TSgt Humphreys was credited with shooting down two Japanese zeros receiving the Air medal with two Oak leaf clusters. When the military expanded the enlisted grades from E7 to E8 and E9, he was in the first groups selected for promotion to each grade. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1965.

He was a Life member of the Gideon's International, Clinton Camp and longtime member of the Hot Springs and Mt. Ida Camps. He was a member of the Black Springs Lodge # 543, and he was a 32nd Degree Mason in both the Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies. He served on the Reed Cemetery Board and was instrumental in establishing the South Fork Fire Department. In Mt. Ida, he also served as Justice of the Peace. He loved the Lord and served as Sunday school teacher, Lay Speaker, and numerous positions within his church.

Leo was preceded in death by his five brothers, Rudolph, Ralph, Richard (Dick) Jr., Mervin, and Billy Max Humphreys; one sister, Anita Wagner; and son, Randall Gabe Humphreys.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Muddy Creek Church of God, Story and burial will be at the Reed Cemetery.

Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Reamey, John Linder, Joseph Alvarado, Johnny Linder, Andrew Love, Rick Turner, and Paul Turner.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Leo Humphreys, Sebastian Love, and Herbert K. Reamey, III.

Amy "Delora" Qualls Humphreys, age 94, was called home Friday, October 7, 2016, from her earthly home in Clinton, surrounded by family and friends. Her last week was filled with two mile walks, piano lessons, frying okra, and blue ribbon awards from the North Central Arkansas District Fair Association. In September she attended the Mt. Ida High School reunion representing the class of 1941's 75th anniversary.

Delora was born in Story, Arkansas on February 13, 1922. During her first year in school she met a young man who carried her lunch bucket and bestowed upon her the endearment of "Snooks". She married her childhood sweetheart and as a military spouse traveled the world.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Leo Humphreys; her son, Randall Gabe Humphreys; her parents, Oscar and Edith Qualls; and two brothers, Willis Qualls and Lonnie Qualls.

She is survived by her daughter and cherished son-in-law, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother and sister-in-law, sister, three sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Delora was one of eighty-seven first cousins therefore her cousins were and are too numerous to list.

Delora loved her Lord and served him faithfully as a lifelong teacher, leader and servant through her church affiliations, the Gideon's Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her devotion to her family was steadfast and exemplary. Our Mimie's wonderful meals, recipes, laughter, stories, counsel, strength, and smiles will be missed.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016, in the Clinton United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 14, 2016, in the Muddy Creek Church of God near Story.

Burial will follow in Reed Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
