Maxine Block Stanley was born on June 14, 1932 to Alonzo and Bertie Daniel Block in Cominto, Arkansas. She departed this life Sunday, June 2, 2013 at her home.

She attended school at Collins, Arkansas. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and joined Gethesame A. M. E. Church under Rev. J. W. Carter in 1943, and in later years moved to Monticello and joined Pilgram Rest A. M. E. Church where she served as usher for many years, until her health failed. She united in Holy Matrimony in 1952 to A. D. Stanley and to this union eleven children were born and eight step-children. She was preceded in death by her husband, two children, two sisters and two brothers.

She worked at Drew Memorial Hospital as a cook for 15 years and also baby sat many children and was a devoted wife and mother.

She leaves to cherish her memory, nine daughters, Jewel (Odell) Davis, Cathy Ridgell, Nancy (James) Williams, Carolyn (Alfonzo) Peer, Vera (Don) Wiley, all of Monticello, Linnie (Jay) Edwards of Arlington, TX, Dorothy Bilton, Doris Stanley and Judy Willis, all of Oakland, CA; nine sons, James Stanley of Warren, Willis Stanley, Kenneth (Margie) Stanley and Parnell Stanley, all of Monticello, Wozell (Alenka) Stanley of Star City, Curtis Stanley of Texas, Chester Stanley of Sacramento, CA, Fred (Jody) Stanley of Lincoln, NE and Rev. W. L. (Niecy) Stanley of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Davany Martin, of Seattle, WA, Kathrine (Richard) Franklin, of Detroit, MI and Lillie James of Monticello; 44 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
