Frances Carol Owens
December 25, 1936 - December 19, 2020
Frances Carol Owens was born in Pikeville, KY on Christmas Day nineteen hundred thirty-six to James & Beulah Horton. She passed away December 19th in her home, one week before her 84th birthday after battling brain cancer for almost two years.
Frances graduated from Pikeville High School and went on to attend Michigan State University in Lansing MI, where she studied criminal justice while setting her sites on becoming one of the first women in the FBI. Love stepped in and changed those plans. She met her husband-to-be, Kenny Owens, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2002 after 45 years of marriage.
Frances spent 42 years as a Sunday school teacher at Antioch First Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. After much cajoling she conceded to move to Decatur to be near her daughter and found a church home in the FBC family as sweet as the one she left behind.
Frances is survived by her daughter, Carol (Owens) & tony Lyerly of Decatur, AL; her son Kenny Owens, Jr. of McDonough, GA; her sisters, Janice Horton and Jimmie Ruth Escapule both of Tombstone, AZ; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Also, surviving Frances is a host of other family members and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday December 23, 2020 from 12:30PM-1:30PM at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge.
Funeral services begin immediately following at 1:30PM in the House-Gregg Funeral Chapel with Mike Doyle officiating.
Interment will be in Old Military Cemetery in Sedgwick under direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge & Lynn, Arkansas.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neighborhood Christian Center of 619 Bank Street, Decatur, AL 35601.
