Elwanda Williams Thomas, resident of Beedeville, Arkansas departed this life on Friday, June 2, 2017 at the age of 87. She was born on March 20, 1930 in Strawberry, Arkansas the daughter of James and Robert Street Williams.
Mrs. Thomas attended and graduated from Beedeville Schools and later attended Harding College and graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She was a Lifetime Member of the Arkansas Teachers’ Association and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas started her teaching career in Gray Ridge of Missouri. She then returned to Arkansas and taught in the Duffel Community, Beedeville Schools and Fuller Elementary Schools PCSSD in Little Rock. After retirement, she returned to Beedeville, Arkansas. She was married to Mr. Milton Thomas who preceded her in death. She enjoyed traveling and enjoyed being an observer of people. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, and reading.
Mrs. Thomas is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Thomas, her parents, James (Jimbo) and Robert (Bob) Williams, two brothers, Horace Williams and Wayne Williams.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her step-daughter, Brenda Thomas Casey and husband, Sam of Salem, Arkansas, two step-grandchildren, Jon Casey and Jeff Casey, one brother, Billy Ray Williams of Little Rock, Arkansas, her nephew and caregiver, Danny Williams and wife Nancy of Mabelvale, Arkansas, nephews, James Williams and wife Janice of McCrory, Arkansas, Robert Williams, Jeffery Williams, Doug Williams, Steve Williams, one niece, Janet Williams and several great nephews and nieces.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Jon Casey, Larry Dabbs, Bart Gaston, Dan Thomas, Sean Williams and Stan Williams.
The family requests that memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church c/o Maxine Currier 13429 Hwy 37 S. McCrory, Arkansas 72101, Arkansas Children’s Hospital or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 with funeral services following at the Thompson-Wilson McCrory Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ferrell Wiggins, officiating. Interment will be Eight Mile Cemetery.
