Vala B. Newton, 97, of Magnolia, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Magnolia, Arkansas.
She was born on April 9, 1913 in Tinsman, Arkansas to the late William Thomas and Sarah Ellen (McManus) Grisham, and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J.O. "Bud" Newton, daughter, Pat Genn, grandson, W.T. "Dubbie" Newton, one great granddaughter Annie Mary Newton, five brothers and one sister.
She is survived by four daughters, Ann Broach of Hampton, Arkansas, Dianna Gail and Cleon Silence of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Brenda and Kenneth Thompson of Magnolia, Sissy and David Rich of Magnolia; five sons, W.T. "Figero" Newton of Magnolia, Don and LeAnn Newton of Hot Springs, Bobby Newton of Magnolia, Danny Newton of Magnolia, Sammy "Bubba" and Reba Newton of Maumelle, Arkansas; 22 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and special long term caregiver and friend, Linda Walker of Magnolia.
Funeral services will be 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Lewis
Funeral Home Chapel. Her grandson, Brian Bohrer and great grandson, Russell Priske will officiate.
Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Moore's Chapel Cemetery on Little Bay Road in Hampton, Arkansas under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc.
Family visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Southern Christian Mission or to the
Immanuel Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Vala's grandsons, Donny Newton, Bobby Ray Thompson, Jim Bob Rich, Clay Norred, Joey Newton and Ricky Broach. Great grandsons will be honorary pallbearers, Jeff Hadwin, Justin Hadwin, Logan Thompson, John Bohrer, and Ryal Siem.
