Alva “Bud” Jacobs, resident of McCrory, Arkansas departed this life on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born in the Duffell Community of Jackson County on September 18, 1924 the son of the late James David “J.D.” and Caroline Dix Jacobs.
Bud loved to farm, especially rice. He spent many happy hours in the fields. He thoroughly enjoyed hauling the fall harvest to the granary in his big blue truck and visiting with others while waiting in line. In later years, he enjoyed farming with his son Rickey and grandson Jason. Bud loved traveling. His most memorable travels included a two week family road trip to Oregon and other western states and a trip of a lifetime to the Holy Land. He enjoyed attending rodeos (especially bull riding) and taking his children and grandchildren on weekend adventures to amusement parks and the Memphis Zoo. Television was a big part of Bud’s life. His favorite show was Wheel of Fortune. Nothing interfered with his 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. entertainment. Bud spent countless hours, playing cards with his friends and enjoyed his last game this past Saturday.
Bud is preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Caroline Jacobs, his wife, Louella Juanita Henderson Jacobs, one son, Donald G. Jacobs, one brother, Carl Jacobs, two sisters, Ruby McCullough and Eva Inman. He is survived by one son, Rickey Jacobs and wife Tommie of McCrory, Arkansas, two daughters, Mary Swanson and husband Frank of McCrory, Arkansas, Donna Reddell Black and husband Donald of Searcy, Arkansas, four sisters, Oma Smith and husband Hank of Flint, Michigan, Elva Sorrells of Alabaster, Alabama, Lula Krivy of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Alta Taylor and husband Eddie of McCrory, Arkansas, eight grandchildren, Caran Pitts and husband Patrick of Patterson, Arkansas, Carla Reynolds and husband Phil of McCrory, Arkansas, Tabetha Cole Quattlebaum and husband George of McCrory, Arkansas, Jason Jacobs and wife Mary Ann of McCrory, Arkansas, DeAnna Bullington and husband Jeremy of McCrory, Arkansas, JoAnna Cupp and husband Stephen of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Landon Neal Reddell of Searcy, Arkansas, Hannah Carol Reddell of Searcy, Arkansas, eleven great-grandchildren, a special niece, Shirley Jacobs of McCrory, Arkansas and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Kevin Armstrong, Bobby Jacobs, Nikia Jacobs, Dennis Martin, Johnny Wayne Taylor, and Jackie White. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Wayne Carter, Lynn Cummings, Jason Frymire, David Hyatt and Dewayne Smith.
The family requests that memorials may be made to the Hickory Ridge Landmark Missionary Baptist Church 410 Flora St. Hickory Ridge, Arkansas 72347.
Visitation will be on Thursday, August 30th between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Friday, August 31st beginning at 2:00 p.m. all at Thompson-Wilson McCrory Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bill Hall, officiating. Interment will be in Eight Mile Cemetery near Beedeville.
