SPRINGDALE — John Thomas Freeman, 84, of Springdale went to his Heavenly Home on Sept. 14, 2011, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale, Ark.

John was born on March 30, 1927, to Wesley and Pearl Latta Freeman of Cane Hill, Ark.

He was a member of Cross Church for 27 years. He was saved at the age of 21 at the Elmdale Country Church. The family moved to Wagoner, Okla., when John was 11 years old.

John served his country in the Navy as a Seabee during World War II.

He taught school in Orange, Calif., for 25 years, and he spent his retirement in Arkansas hauling straw to Farmers Coops until his 10 years in dialysis forced him to retire.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank of Sallisaw; and sisters, Lulabelle Whiteley Morris of Springdale and Beulah Whiteley Maxey of Pryor, Okla. He is survived by his wife, Ida Mae of the home; three sisters, Floy Parks of Dallas, Texas, Ruby Baker of Springdale and Louise Galey of Duncan, Okla.; brother-in-law, Joe Galey of Duncan, Okla.; and sister-in-law, Tommy Lou Abner Wagoner, Okla. He is also survived by many precious nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Cross Church Chapel at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, Joe Dorman officiating.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery.

SPRINGDALE — Ida Mae Freeman passed away Friday, July 27, 2018, in Springdale, Ark. She was born Sept. 15, 1927, the daughter of Ralph and Lillian Adams in Wagoner, Okla.

She was a 1945 graduate of Wagoner High School where she was drum major of the marching band, voted Best Girl Citizen and Annual Queen. After graduation she enrolled for the summer semester at Oklahoma A&M (OSU) in Stillwater. She pledged Pi Beta Phi and was elected president of her pledge class and secretary of the freshman class. She had two years at OSU and graduated with a BA in science and education.

In August of 1947, she married her high school sweetheart, John Thomas Freeman, who had just returned from his Naval tour of duty with the SeaBees in Okinawa, Japan. They continued their college education at Northeastern State in Tahlequah while living in Wagoner, Okla., they then moved to Oklahoma City and later to Santa Ana, Calif., where they lived and taught school for five years. They then moved back to Oklahoma so John could earn his degree. Ida earned her master's and taught for two years at Ellington Elementary School in Wagoner.

In 1964 the Freemans returned to California where they both taught school for 19 happy years, retiring in 1984, they then moved to Springdale, Ark., where they attended the First Baptist Church of Springdale and Ida sang in the choir for 25 years. She also volunteered at Northwest Medical Center in Springdale for 17 years, earning 5,000 hours of service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and her husband. Survivors include many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday; Aug. 4, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Cross Church of Springdale, with Charlie Foster and Larry Colclasure officiating. Burial will follow at Bluff Cemetery in Springdale. Visitation will be one hour before service starting at 12 noon. Online condolences may be left at www.siscofuneral.com.
