Mr. Gerald Cassidy, 80, of Blytheville, died Friday, November 9, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis.
Born August 16, 1927, in Huffman, the son of the late George H. and Demetra Ray Cassidy, he was a lifelong area resident, a retired farmer and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Blytheville.
He attended the University of Arkansas and had been an active 4-H member. Mr. Cassidy served on the board of the Mississippi County Electric Cooperative for 35 years, and had served with the Northeast Mississippi County Water Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Poole.
Mr. Cassidy leaves his wife of 60 years, Jo Ann Tankersley Cassidy of the home; his children, Greg Cassidy and his wife, Karen, of Huffman, Brenda Ashmore and her husband, Danny, of Armorel, Chris Cassidy and his wife, Rita, of Blytheville, Michelle Cassidy of Melbourne, Fla., and Jeff Cassidy and his wife, Kristin, of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, Larry Cassidy, Ralph Cassidy and Ray Cassidy, all of the St. Louis area; six grandchildren, Phillip Cassidy and his wife, Melissa, Amanda and Gavin Ashmore, Keith, Kyle and Katelyn Cassidy; and one great-grandchild, Pyper Greer.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Joseph Pailo officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rosary will be held at 5:30 tonight at Cobb Funeral Home in Blytheville with visitation to follow
from 6-8 p.m.
