Herbert Ray Downing died early this morning in the Doctors Hospital. Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. P.H. Jernigan and Rev. G. Renshaw officiating, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Born in Blytheville, he was a lifelong resident here. He was a member of the Armorel Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Downing; his father, Joe Downing of Risco, MO; three sons, Herbert Gale Downing of Marion, Ark., Michael Ray Downing and James Marshall (Jimmy) Downing, both of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Betty Ann Coleman and Mrs. Brenda Mae Edwards, both of Blytheville and Mrs. Carolyn Kaye Rozelle of Riverside, Calif.; a brother, Raymond Downing of Risco, MO.; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Butler of St. Louis; and one grandchild.

Mrs. Dorothy Aycock Downing Holmes, 87, of West Memphis, Arkansas, died Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at the Broadway Health Care Center in West Memphis.
She was born in Burdette, AR, to James Marshal Aycock and Effie Lillian Martin Aycock and was the owner and operator of the Blytheville Telephone Service.
Dorothy was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she was the organist for many years. She was a loving mother and grandmother who raised her family singlelandedly after the death of her husband in 1968.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Herbert Ray Downing and Bud Holmes; two daughters, Brenda Edwards and Betty Grimmett; and a son, Jimmy Downing.
Survivors include her children, Mike Downing, Gale Downing and Kaye Rozelle; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Cemetery.
