When Jehu "John" Underwood was born on May 3, 1834, in Perry, Missouri, his father, John, was 23 and his mother, Mary, was 19. He married Martha Ann Biggers on January 19, 1854, in Ralls, Missouri. They had ten children in 23 years. He died on December 20, 1917, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, having lived a long life of 83 years.
