*Obituary
Velma Shrader Faught passed away July 13, 1983 in Mountain Home, AR. She had been a resident of Blytheville, AR for many years. She was born in Shraderville, MS on October 18, 1909 to Clarence and Carrie Everett Shrader. During her early years, the family lived in Shraderville, where they owned a mercantile and several acres of land. Her great-grandfather, J.A.C. Shrader, Sr. was a wealthy landowner in Sharkey County and is included in the Goodspeed biography of Mississippi. Her parents and grandparents eventually left Mississippi and opened a large mercantile and drug store in Memphis, TN before relocating again to Steele, MO. Her father and grandfather owned and operated The Memphis Mercantile Company, large mercantiles in the southeast Missouri area. Velma always said that even though her family was wealthy, the children were still expected to do chores. She matured into a beautiful woman with an equally beautiful personality. Everyone who met her, loved her. She married Fred Faught in 1931 and moved to Blytheville. She was an incredible cook and enjoyed being a homemaker. She would still help at Fred's grocery store if needed, however. She was a very accomplished quilter and her work is amazing. She loved her family and friends very much and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be at Cobb Funeral Home with long time family friend, Rev. Paul Kirkindall officiating, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville.
