OAKLEY, Utah - Margaret R. LeMaster, 97, formerly of Rogers, passed peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017, at her home in Oakley, Utah.
Margaret was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Kokomo, Ind., to Carl Thomas and Anna Frances (Spann) Beard, and was the eldest of seven children. She graduated from Morton Memorial High School in Knightstown, Ind., in 1938, and attended Marion College, Ball State Teacher's College, and Purdue University. While at Knightstown, Margaret met the love of her life, Robert Paul LeMaster, whom she married May 8, 1942. They were married 55 years.
After retirement, Margaret and her husband moved from Muncie, Ind., to the Rogers area in 1979. She lived in Northwest Arkansas for 23 years, before moving to Chattanooga, Tenn., and finally to Oakley, Utah. She attended the First Christian Church in Rogers.
She was a preschool teacher for many years, operating her own school from her home, then helping start and teach at a Head Start Program in Muncie, Ind. At least three generations of 3- and 4-year-olds knew "Miss Margaret" for her love, compassion, and dedication to early childhood education. Even after retirement, she continued to volunteer in schools and day care centers in Rogers and Chattanooga, Tenn. She was known for being a hard worker, and for her quick wit and humor. She loved travel, gardening, baking and sewing.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Robert P. LeMaster II; her parents; three brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Deleane Thurman of Rossville, Ga.; sister, Mary Warren of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 6, at 6 p.m. at the chapel at Elk Meadows Assisted Living in Oakley, Utah. She will be interred in the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., with Bob Sr. on Friday, Aug. 11, at 2 p.m.
The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who worked with Margaret in her last years, and sincerely appreciates their caring and love.
