Dessie Rankin Holder Barber, age 86, a resident of Sims, Arkansas, died Monday, December 22, 2014 in National Park Medical Center, Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born to Thomas and Etta Birlew Rankin in Bethel, Oklahoma, on October 12, 1928.
She was a member of the Faith Tabernacle of Mount Ida, Arkansas, and was a homemaker. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bird watching, loved cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Melton Holder and Thomas Barber, two sons, Melton Lee Holder and Van Buren Holder, a daughter, Arnetta Kaye Holder, two brothers, Hover Rankin and Jimmy Rankin, and a sister, Etta Louvisia Rankin.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Chandler of De Queen, Arkansas, and Joyce Vann of Gillham, Arkansas, a son, Robert Ray Holder of Sims, Arkansas, a special sister-in-law, Betty McDougal of Eloy, Arizona, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 26, 2014 in the Faith Tabernacle, Mount Ida, Arkansas, with Rev. Paul Burke officiating.
Burial will follow in the Barber Cemetery in Sims, Arkansas
