When Irene Boyd was born in 1914 in Arkansas, her father, Oscar, was 24, and her mother, Hester, was 19. She married R. Lee Herman Ellenburg (1906–1986) on July 10, 1950.

When Oscar Boyd was born on November 22, 1887, in Mississippi, his father, Alexander, was 36 and his mother, Dulcenia, was 29. He had three brothers and five sisters. He died on April 30, 1963, in Arkansas at the age of 75, and was buried in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
