SPRINGDALE — Max Clayton Brogdon, 84, of Springdale died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at his home. He was born Oct. 20, 1928, in Springdale to Harry Hulen and Letha Belle Epperson Brogdon.

Max was a retired letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Not one to be idle, Max worked for many more years for Cardinal Health delivering made-to-order pharmaceuticals to hospitals throughout Northwest Arkansas. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Cuban Missile Crisis and was a member of the Air Force Reserve for many years following. His love of aviation followed him his entire life.

Dad was a man of faith, who put his faith into action by doing things for others. He would give the shirt off of his back to help another person in need whether a friend, neighbor or stranger, sometimes in ways that were never known to the receiver... a youth's church camp registration fee would quietly be paid ...a repaired bike or wagon would show up in a yard far a child. He traveled with church members to Costa Rica for two weeks to build a new church for the community.

Dad had many talents: he could help wire a house, fix a broken lawn mower, build new steps for his daughter's patio, write a poem, savor the beauty of the outdoors, and enjoy a country song one minute and a classical song the next. Active until recently, he took delight in mowing his own lawn and using his chain saw to clear tree limbs from a wind storm. He was a gentleman with a kindness for all combined with a quick wit and humor. He served as Scout Master for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for many years. A graduate of Springdale High School himself, he was a Springdale High School Band Booster as a parent and manned the concession stand on many cold nights. He was a volunteer bus driver transporting many busloads of students to football games, concerts, church outings and parades for more than two decades. He was an avid fan of the Razorbacks and the Springdale Bulldogs.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Brian Clayton Brogdon in December 2002, as well as by siblings Harry Hulen Bragdon, Mary Louise Tedder, James Hal Brogdon and Carl David Brogdon.

Survivors include the love of his life and his bride of 58 years, Johnette Louise Baldwin Brogdon of the home; his sister, Jean Greenhaw; one daughter, Gail Brogdon Dowd; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with Pastor Larry Woodward officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider a donation to Dillon International Adoption, 3227 E. 31st St., Suite 200, Tulsa, OK 74105; or Children's Safety Center, 614 East Emma Ave., Springdale, AR 72764: Arkansas Children's Hospital, 1 Children's Way, Little Rock, AR, 72202; or a charity of one's choice.
