Laurea A. Cunningham, 86, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on January 1, 2017 at her home.
Laurea A. Myers, daughter of Clarence H. and Wilma Mills Myers, was born on February 5, 1930 in Gravette, Arkansas. She married Jack T. Cunningham on September 4, 1948 in Hartford, Kansas. They later divorced.
Surviving family members include: sons, Ron (Mary Ann) Cunningham of Tulsa, OK, Mark Cunningham of Emporia, Marshall Cunningham of Austin, TX, and Doug (Libby) Cunningham of Prairie Village, KS; daughters, Linda (John) Fitzpatrick of Topeka, KS, and De (Darrell) Ricker of Emporia; sisters, Patricia Smith of San Angelo, TX, Barbara (Tony) Mourelatos of Tyler, TX, Clarece (Wayne) Hill of Holly Lake, TX, and Carolyn (Jimmy) Shaw of Forney, TX; grandchildren, Leigh Ann (Brian) Erico, and Debbie (Craig) Hicks, both of OK, Tim (Melissa) Fitzpatrick, and Kelli (Brooks) Swift, both of KS, Chase Cunningham, and Cole (Meagan) Cunningham of MO, Stacy Schaefer, Hoyt (Amanda) Schaefer, and Isabelle Cunningham, all of KS; and thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Minta Sheely, and Betty Raba; and a great-grandson, Waylon Schaefer.
Laurea was a homemaker sharing her joy of canning and cooking with everyone. As a licensed daycare provider her love of children was evident to others even outside of her own family. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, as well as the United Methodist Women program with her love of God and faith never waning.
Cremation is planned. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, January 6, 2017 at Grace United Methodist Church, Emporia. Memorial contributions may be made to Emporia Community Daycare, and sent in care of the funeral home.
