Juanita MCCLURE SUTTON

Lone Tree Cemetery
Arkansas County,
Arkansas

July 23, 1924 - Sept 11, 2011

Ruby “Juanita” McClure Sutton passed away on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, in Amarillo. She was 87 years old.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Ark., officiated by Juanita’s great-nephew, Russell Stanphill of Humboldt, Tenn. Arrangements are being handled by Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart, Ark.

Born on July 23, 1924 in Butlerville, Ark., to Lyle and Elora McClure. She grew up in Ulm, Ark., and moved to Little Rock, Ark., and Jacksonville, Ark., and later to Detroit to work in munitions plants during World War II. She moved with her family to Amarillo, where she worked as a hairdresser at The Carousel Beauty Salon until finally retiring in 2001. She was a hard working and fiercely independent woman who was respected and admired by everyone who knew her.

Juanita was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who was cherished by her family. She loved Jesus, her family, her country, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys and her dog, Maggie - although not always necessarily in that order. She clipped the television sports schedule from the newspaper every morning so she did not miss any opportunities to cheer for her favorite players and teams. One of her favorite memories was winning the Arkansas State Girls Basketball championship during high school with her father as her coach. She was devoted to her daughters, granddaughters, brothers, sister and extended family.

She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Alton McClure.

Juanita is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan Clawitter Hixson and Jay Hixson of Paris, Ark., and Deborah Clawitter Hansen and Randy Hansen of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Leslie Hixson Herrington and husband Austin of Little Rock, Marcie Hansen Bunch and husband Trey of Dallas, and Lindsey Hixson of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Pate Stanphill, of Denison; two brothers, Denver McClure of Tulsa, Okla., and Frank McClure and wife Una of Searcy, Ark.; a sister-in-law, Betty McClure of Cedarville; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
