BENTONVILLE — John W. Fryer, 76, of Bentonville, died Sept. 1, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 18, 1929, in McCrory to John R. Fryer and Marguerite Dye Fryer. He graduated from high school in Augusta, received his bachelor of science from Arkansas State Teachers College and received his master's degree in school administration from Memphis State University. He was a schoolteacher, and a principal in the Harrisburg School District and in the Bentonville School District. He later worked at the Bank of Bentonville and was manager of the Bella Vista branch for 28 years and served on the bank's board of directors and retired as an executive vice president. He was a civic leader and served as Bentonville Chamber of Commerce president in 1960, was the first chairman of the Peal House Foundation board, and was a Bentonville/Bella Vista Noon Rotary member and past president. He was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Bentonville First United Methodist Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife of 55 years, Juanita Fryer of the home; two sons, John Stephen Fryer and wife Janice of Bentonville, Tom Fryer of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Bentonville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rex Dickey and the Rev. Ben Hines officiating, Burial will be in the Bentonville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Bentonville First United Methodist Church.
