Meladean Joyce Shipman Petersen

Meladean Joyce (Shipman) Petersen left this world on June 22, 2020, two days after her 85th birthday at Baxter Regional Medical Center. She was born in Fifty Six, Arkansas, on June 20, 1935, to William and Lillie (Balentine) Shipman.

Meladean spent her lifetime as a nurse. Starting working for Dr. Carl Beck's Clinic and finishing her career at Mountain View Family Practice. In between, she also worked at Stone County Medical Center and Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

She was always available to family and friends who would call her at night, and on weekends seeking medical advice. Later in life, she enjoyed taking care of her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Alan Pogue, and his wife Carolyn, of Boone County; her granddaughter Megan Freeman and husband Jeremy of Fifty Six; five great-grandchildren, Danica, Maebry, and Corbin Freeman of Fifty Six; Kelli Pogue of Mountain View; and Bella Pogue of Branson, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Raymond Albright and Gene Petersen; a daughter Janet Kirkpatrick; a grandson Christopher Pogue; and nine sisters and brothers.

She was a member of the Fifty Six Missionary Baptist Church, Walter Moore Chapter 525 Eastern Star Lodge of Mountain View, and the VFW Auxiliary of VFW Post 4766 of Mountain View.

During her time here, she touched several hundred people either by helping Dr. Beck in deliveries or surgeries; by her work at the Clinic or hospital; or by her volunteering with the Eastern Star or the VFW Auxiliary.

With her unique name, many people in Stone County will always remember her smile or her helping touch. She will be missed by family and friends very much, but she is now with her parents and grandson.
