June 29, 1931 - April 1, 2020

*Obituary
Dr. William Carrol “Bill” Loe, 88, of Hope passed away April 1, 2020, in Prescott surrounded by family.
Born on June 29, 1931 in Sweet Home, Ark., to Hix and Winnie Belle Loe. The family ran a country store in the Deaneyville community and he attended school at Blevins. He had retired from the University of Arkansas Research and Extension Center in Hope in 1994 and was a faithful member of the Hope Church of Christ, serving as an elder until 2002. He was an Army Veteran, Rotarian and Hope School Board member and president.
He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife of 47 years, Mildred Elizabeth “Betty” Loe, and a brother, Hursel “Bob” Loe.
He is survived by three daughters, Jan Hastings and Terry of Benton, Cathy Loe of Hope, and Cindy Lance and Steve of Hope; one brother, John D. Loe and Linda of DeKalb, TX; one sister, Janelle Wright and Ken of Pleasant Grove, TX; one sister-in-law, Lila Loe of Mansfield, TX; four grandchildren, Pam West and Carl of Benton, Amanda Lance of Hope, Josh Hastings and Kim of Benton, and Clay Lance of Hope; two great-grandchildren, Caitlyn West and Jasper Hastings, both of Benton; and countless nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Dr. Loe took great care to instill a love for God and education in his family. He jokingly quoted Matthew 28:20 as his favorite verse: “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (He joked that “Loe” had been misspelled.) He took great pride in his own education, having earned degrees from Southern State College (now Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia), University of Arkansas, and Louisiana State University. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hope Church of Christ Youth Fund (1815 Hwy. 73 E, Hope, AR 71801), Southern Christian Home (100 W. Harding St., Morrilton, AR 72110), the Wm. C. “Bill” and Betty Loe Family Scholarship at University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana (c/o UAHT Foundation, P.O. Box 140, Hope, AR 71802), or the Hastings Loe Scholarship at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy (ATTN: MS 501, 4301 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR 72205).
Graveside services for the family are scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at the Sweet Home Cemetery under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Homes with Barry Haynes officiating. A memorial service will be scheduled later for the many friends, colleagues and students who wish to pay their respects.
