ROGERS — Maxine "Penny" Easley, 97, of Rogers passed away Dec. 17, 2019, at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. Penny was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Key, Ark., to Ottis Cleora and Mary Ellen Mahaney Key.
Key, Ark., was named for her family who settled there in 1832. She grew up in the log cabin they built upon settling. She was the last surviving sibling and cousin in her family. Key, Ark., is now under Beaver Lake.
She was a stay-at-home mother, but during WWII, while her husband went to war, she worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kan., as a "Rosie the Riveter." She was very involved with the Girl Scouts when her youngest girl was in school. She married Clare Easley on Aug. 9, 1942, and they were the parents of three daughters.
Penny was preceded in death by husband Clare who passed in 1989; sisters Roberta Bowen and Helen Threet; and granddaughter Jennifer Waudby Ferguson.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Jo and John Waudby of Bentonville, Sue and David Schwendemann of Bella Vista and Judy and Johnny Harris of Carthage, Mo.; grandchildren Teff Knapnenbereger, Amy Hessman, Corey Harris, Casey Harris and Craig Harris; great-grandchildren Austin, Conner, Duncan, Payton, Kyle, Tiffany, Sarah, Crissy, Kaden, Abby, Ashlyn, Shayla, Tyler and Abiah; and great-great grandchildren Naomi, Keegan and Marley.
Her wish was to not have a visitation or formal funeral, but there will be a graveside service in Bland Cemetery on Moberly Lane, Bentonville on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, www.nationalmssociety.org/Donate.
