Ruby Geneva Davis Anderson Williams, age 102 of Searcy, died Thursday, October 25, 2018 in Searcy. She was born September 22, 1916 at Plainview, Arkansas to A.J. and Jannie Davis. She was the oldest of four children growing up on a small farm that was typical of the day. She graduated from Plainview High School and in the summer of 1934 worked with others preparing for the opening of Harding College in the fall. She began her studies at Harding College that fall as one of the beginning Freshmen. She met and married William F. Anderson while there and they had two children before his death in 1940. She married James R. Williams in 1946 and they had a daughter. During World War II, Ruby worked various jobs, including at the ammunition plant complex in Jacksonville, and following the war, with Arkansas Power & Light Company. She became a school teacher and earned her Masters Degree in Education in 1959. As a teacher in mostly junior high classes of history, civics and economics, she was known as an accomplished teacher, and a strict disciplinarian. As such, she garnered love and respect from students and coworkers alike. She retired from teaching in 1981 after over thirty years in the profession. She was a charter member of the College Church of Christ in Searcy and attended there until her death. She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Anderson Maple of Edmond, Oklahoma, Margaret Williams Southerland and husband Norman of San Antonio, Texas; one sister, Pauline Owens of Marion, Indiana; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a sister; a brother; a son; a son-in-law; and a grandson. Visitation is Monday at 9:00 am at College Church of Christ. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:00 am at College Church of Christ with interment to follow at White County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in her name to His House, a benevolent outreach of College Church of Christ.
