His parents were Charles and Jane Adcock, his father having come to America from England and his mother from Holland. His higher schooling was received in Denmard Academy where he worked his way by teaching school and then attending. However his education ever increased as his habit of study and love of knowledge continued as long as he lived. Comprehensive was his knowledge of both sacred and profane history. On June 25, 1876 he was married to Miss Josephine Burns at Confidence, Iowa. To them being given more than fifty years of wedded life. To this union were born seven children of whom three survive. Two grandchildren, Nina Stevens Kelley of Roswell, N.M. and Herbert Stevens of Clovis, N.M., upon the death of their mother twenty-one years ago, lived in the home until grown and were loved, cared for and regarded as his own. In 1895 he removed from Iowa to New Mexico seeking a higher altitude and a more favorable climate. In 1901 he came to Hiwasse, Arkansas where he continued to live until his death.
