January 19, 1889 - November 5, 1968
Mrs. Alva Henley, 79, of Reader, Ark., died Tuesday morning in a local hospital following a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 4, 1889, in Clark County, Ark., she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Guesner. She had been a resident of El Dorado three years and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Reader. Survivors are five sons, J. Aubrey Henley, Sedalia, Mo., J. Sheppard Henley, Arlington, Tex., Dr. Paul G. Henley, El Dorado, and Edgar G. Henley, Houston, Tex. and Perry S. Henley, Hope; three daughters, Mrs. Sam Cornelius, Prescott, Mrs. Arthur R. McCroskey, Greenville, Tex., and Mrs. Ralph Lehman, Hope; a brother, Hamilton Guesner, Little Rock; two sisters, Mrs. Elmer Brown and Mrs. Josie Brown, both of Gurdon; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rumph Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Alvin C. Murray officiating. Burial will be in Turner Cemetery near Reader. Pallbearers will be Raymond Henley, Butch Henley, Ed Henley, Floyd Henley, Buddy Henley, Francis Henley, John Henley and Paul Henley. (El Dorado Times November 6, 1968)
