ROGERS — Lawrence Gilbert Ryan Sr., passed away Jan. 26, 2012.

He is survived by his loving wife of 75 1/2 years, Edith Irene Cole Ryan.

He graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State), Stillwater, in 1936, with an electrical engineering degree and an Army commission. From 1936 through 1941, he worked for Phillips Petroleum Co., searching for oil over a region in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Eastern Texas, moving 59 times.

From 1941 to 1945, he served in the Army stationed at Camp Chaffee, Fort Smith, Ark., and transferred to the South Pacific on Guam, where he served as head of ordinance. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 as a major and moved the family to Rogers, Ark. He joined the Arkansas Army National Guard as a captain and went to the Korean conflict as the commanding officer of the Rogers, Ark., Unit, "C" Company, 142nd Artillery.

After moving his family to Rogers in 1946, he started Ryan Electric, eventually also owning and operating Spic & Span Laundry and raising cattle and hogs, retiring in 2002. He wa s a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Rogers, being a Sunday school teacher and a deacon.

Lawrence "Larry' Ryan is survived by his wife; four sons; and three daughters; 24 grandchildren; and 38 great- and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters; his parents; and three siblings.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Rollins Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Tommy Hinson officiating. His burial will follow at Rogers City Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his daughter.

Visitation is Tuesday, Jan. 31, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Edith Irene Cole Ryan, 100 of Rogers passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. She was born February 2, 1917 in Mulberry, Arkansas to the late John Samuel Cole and Ethel Overstreet Cole. Following graduation from High School she attended Oklahoma A&M where she met and married Lawrence Ryan Sr. They shared more than 75 years together. Mrs. Ryan enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning and took great pride in having raised their 9 accomplished children on their farm near Prairie Creek. She was also a woman of great faith and was proud to have served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 60 years. In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she was also preceded by 2 daughters, Virginia Jones and Florence Woodum (Paul); one granddaughter; her parents and 7 sisters and brothers. Survivors include 3 daughters, Pat Vernon of Texas, Bette Playford (Jim) of Kansas, Ann McLeod (Larry) of Missouri; and 4 sons, Lawrence Gilbert Ryan Jr. (Lenie) of Jacksonville, Charles Ryan of Rogers, Bob Ryan (Pam) of Cave Springs, and Jerry Ryan (Dana) of Harrison; a son-in-law Rel Jones; a sister, Dorothy McBroom (Johnnie) of California; a brother, John S. Cole Jr. (Barbara) of Oklahoma; 26 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; 25 great great grandchildren; many extended family members, her church family and dear friends. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Friday, January 12 in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. Her Funeral service will be at 12:00pm Saturday, January 13 at the 8th and Olive Campus of First Baptist Church in Rogers.
