Former City Mayor, Realtor Dies At 86

Ernest W. Vinson, 86, of 1016 South 4th St., a former mayor of Rogers from 1932 to 1944, died Sunday evening at Rogers Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 23, 1885 at Odessa, Mo., the son of Frank and Laura Kyle Vinson. He moved to Rogers in 1905.

Vinson first opened a printing office in Rogers and founded the Rogers Daily Post, in association with the late John Nance. The newspaper later became the Rogers Daily News. He became active in the real estate business and operated a real estate office in Rogers until three years ago. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marietta McQuire Vinson of Rogers; two daughters, Mrs. Lorene Stephens of Falls Church, Va., and Mrs. Ernestine Scott of Rogers; three brothers, Emmitt Vinson of Monett, Mo., Roy Vinson of Springfield, Mo., and Roger Vinson of Fort Worth, Tex.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Burns Funeral Chapel with the Rev. W. P. Connell officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery, under the direction of Burns Funeral Home. City hall will be closed from 1:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Friends may call at Burns Funeral Chapel from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Marrietta Vinson, 89, widow of former mayor, Ernest W. Vinson, died Friday at Rogers Memorial Hospital. She was born July 16, 1890, at Chanute, Ks.

She was a Rogers resident since 1893 and a member of the Merry Matrons Club and the Central Methodist Church. She was owner and developer of Vinson Square and assisted in the restoration of numerous his buildings in downtown Rogers.

She is survived by two daughters, Ernestine Scott of Rogers, and Lorene Stephens of Fall Church, Va.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Callison-Lough Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Wayne Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 9 p.m.
