OBITUARY OF G.S. HANSARD

Once more the sable winged messenger of death has visited our community and taken one of our oldest and best beloved citizen. After a pilgrimage of more than three score years and ten, G.S. Hansard has been called from the scene and the temporal to the unseen and the eternal. Life is a flower that many send forth its fragrance into the world. The life of G.S. Hansard had time to unfold in its beauty before the people of Siloam Springs and vicinity, whose he has lived for the past forty years. That we may better appreciate his life, permit me to point out a few of its characteristics.

George Samuel Hansard was born February 9, 1855 at Humansville, Mo., a son of Samuel H. and Armenia Hansard. He was married to Paulina Hannah with whom he lived happily until the time of her death. March 31, 1936. For more than fifty years, Mr. and Mrs. Hansard walked the ways of love and companionship together. A word about his business life. By business, I mean the thing that we do to make a living. All want to succeed, but what is success? It is not alone in making money but in building character. For a number of years Mr. Hansard was engaged in the meat business. George,, as he was familiarly known, was a hard worker and gave his best for those dependent upon him. He was honest and held the respect and good-will of his neighbors and friends. Going hence Mr. Hansard will be missed. His memory will be cherished by his fellow citizens with enduring affection. By his personal associates with emotions strong as a brother's love, and in the domestic circle it can be forgotten only when memory itself shall have perished.

Funeral services were held at Wasson's Chapel Sunday afternoon, September 20, conducted by Rev. C.D. Purlee, pastor of the Christian church, and an old-time friends of the deceased. The pallbearers were all nephews, namely; Chas. Hansard, Fayetteville, Ark., A.R. Hansard, Ft. Smith, Ark., John Hansard, Osaleta, Okla., Elbert Woods, Hiwasse, Ark., S.D. Woods, Fayetteville, Ark. and Will Woods, Hiwasse, Ark.

Burial was in beautiful Oak Hill cemetery. Siloam Springs. – Contributed.
