RICE, Anna OAKLEY - Mrs. Anna Oakley Rice died Thursday night, August 12th at 11:35 at her home in this city. Death was the result of a complication of diseases and although she had been in poor health for several months, she had been dangerously ill only a week before she passed away. The funeral services were held at the Central Methodist church Friday, August 13th and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.F.E. Bates, assisted by Rev. A.L. Jordan. Interment was made at Oakley's Chapel cemetery. Anna Oakley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.A. Oakley, was born near Rogers March 12, 1873. She grew to womanhood in or near this city and received her education in the schools here. While she was a very young girl she professed faith in Christ and joined the M.E. church, South of which she has always been a faithful member. For a number of years she was successfully engaged in business and on April 22d, 1908 she was happily married to Dr. R.S. Rice of this city. Few deaths of recent date have been a greater blow to the community in general than that of Mrs. Rice. A woman of lovely character and winning personality, she had an unusually large circle of warm friends and gained more wherever she went. She was a most loyal daughter and devoted sister and was always willing to sacrifice her own interests for the welfare of her family. Before the death of her mother, who passed away two years ago, she devoted her entire energies in caring for her and proved herself an untiring nurse. During the later months of her life she has been a great blessing in her new home, filling her position there most gracefully and winning the love and admiration of all with whom she came in contact. For a week before her death it was known that there was no hope for her recovery and although she suffered the most intense agony during her conscious moments she was uncomplaining. One of the hardest things for her friends and loved ones to bear was the thought that although she was surrounded by every possible advantage of skilled physicians they could give her no permanent relief. She is survived by her husband, Dr. R.S. Rice, and two step-daughters, also a sister, Mrs. L.G. Sager, and three brothers, O.A.P. Oakley and Edgar Oakley of this city and Will Oakley of Fayetteville. The Democrat joins with the many friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
