Harriett Colleen Smith Burges, 91, of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, October 06, 2012, in the De Queen Medical Center.
She was born September 7, 1921 to Lester Walker and Elsie Lawson Smith in Wesley, Arkansas. She lived her early years around Wesley, Arkansas, later moving to Yuma, Arizona, where she married Melvin Burges October 16, 1945.
She was a farmer and a homemaker. She enjoyed playing softball, working on the farm, watching television, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Andrew, Roy, Percy, Keith, Harold, and Charlie Smith, Lorean Barnhill, Katie Neal, Edna Meeks, and Maxine Hubbard; and her husband Melvin Burges in 1985.
She was survived by a son, two daughters and sons-in-law, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 9 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, with Reverend Don Jones officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery under direction of Chandler Funeral Home.
The family received friends at the funeral home Monday, October 8 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
