*Obituary
Alta Rogers Durham, born January 27, 1914, died December 8, 2011 after a brief illness.
Alta was born in Cedarville, Arkansas, to Charles and Rachael Rogers. She attended Business College in Fort Smith, AR and went to work for the Kansas City Southern railroad. She was transferred to DeQueen in 1936. She married Lowell Durham, a Sevier County native, in 1939 and lived in DeQueen until 1946. She and Lowell moved to Texarkana, then to Tulsa, OK in 1952. She worked for Oklahoma State University's Home Demonstration office until her retirement. She and Lowell returned to DeQueen when they retired in 1976.

Mrs. Durham was a member of First United Methodist Church, and the hospital auxiliary. She volunteered through the hospital auxiliary at the DeQueen Regional Hospital's gift shop for 34 years. She was an accomplished seamstress making her family beautiful clothing. She was an avid gardener raising blueberries which she shared with her friends.

She lost her husband, Lowell, in 1987. She is survived by her daughter Mary Durham and son in law Jim Hunnicutt of Plain, WA; and her daughter Diane Callahan of Seattle, WA. Her grandchildren are Capt. Lindsey Callahan, who is stationed with the Air Force Judge Advocate General (JAG) in England and Todd Callahan, a graduate student at the University of Washington Foster School of Business, living in Seattle, WA. Her local family is Imogene Durham, O.H. (Rusty) and Judy Durham, Karen Trammell and Jan Durham. Her brother, Pete Rogers, lives in Susanville, CA and niece, Sue Bourns, lives in Van Buren, AR.

She was a lovely lady, always well dressed and dignified. She was most often described as spunky. She will be missed.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 13 at 10 a.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in DeQueen, Arkansas.
