Johnie Sue (Gaston) Dunavin daughter of William Lone Gaston and Mary Elizabeth Waggoner Gaston.

James Robert Dunavin, St. of Melbourne died October 16, 1992 at the White River Medical Center at the age of 71. He was born April 9, 1921 in Newport, Arkansas.

Dunavin was a veteran of the Navy and a member of the VFW. He was a retired farmer and of the Methodist faith.

Dunavin was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert Dunavin and Josie M. (Lee) Dunavin.

Survivors include his wife, Johnie Sue (Gaston) Dunavin; one son James "Jimmy" R. Dunavin, Jr. of Melbourne; one daughter, Linda Cheadle of Hope; one brother, Eugene Dunavin of Newark and two sisters, Ruby Tilley of Newark, and Birdie Moss of Omaha, Nebraska; and four grandchildren.

Services were held at the Crouch Chapel in Melbourne at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 1992, with Brother Chuck Crow officiating.

Pallbearers were Doyle Weaver, Phillip Carr, John Carr, Russell Gaston, Randy Gaston and Jack Blankenship, Tim Carr served as honorary pallbearers.

Burial followed in the Violet Hill Cemetery with Crouch Funeral Home presiding.

Johnie Sue Gaston Dunavin, daughter of the late William Lone Gaston and Mary Elizabeth (Mary Bet) Waggoner Gaston, was born July 11, 1928, in Violet Hill, Arkansas. She departed this life July 11, 2017, in Melbourne, Arkansas, at the age of 89. She was united in marriage to James Robert "Jack" Dunavin, Sr. on December 20, 1952, and to this union two children were born.

She worked as the Izard County Health Nurse for many years and, prior to that, was a nurse at Melbourne Hospital in the 1950’s and 1960’s. She spent her life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, homemaker and friend.

She is survived by one sister: Elizabeth (Liz) Plott and husband Donnie of Illinois; four grandchildren: Jodie Dunavin of Greenbrier, Arkansas; Kimberly Dunavin Vargo (John) of Florida; Christopher Dunavin Cheadle (April) of Manila, Arkansas; and Carmen Diane Cheadle of Fayetteville, Arkansas; four great grandchildren: Taylor Dunavin, Graham West, Kale Vargo and Ava Cheadle; one daughter-in-law: Callie Dunavin of West Memphis, Arkansas; one son-in-law: Matthew Cheadle of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son: James Robert "Jimmy" Dunavin, Jr; one daughter: Linda Sue Dunavin Cheadle; five brothers: William Lytle Gaston, Rex Elmore Gaston, Carroll Norris Gaston, Jackie Harrison Gaston, and infant (unnamed); and two sisters: Bertie Lee Carr and Cleffogene Winfree.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 16, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. at Eddie’s Family Funeral Home in Melbourne. Graveside funeral service will be Sunday, July 16, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Violet Hill Cemetery.
