Lawrence Richard Bell, 85, of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 in the Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born May 1, 1927 in De Queen. He was a member of the Church of Christ, VP and general manager for D&E and TO&E Railroad for over 30 years and a World War II veteran. He was also captain and the commanding officer of the De Queen National Guard Unit during the crisis at Central High School in Little Rock in 1957.
Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Emma Autrey Bell; his wife, Billie Jean Eastwood Bell, one brother, Archie Bell; three sisters, Josephine Vaughn, Betty Anderson and Bessie Stewart; one great-grandson, Tyler Ellzey; and one great-granddaughter, Rylie Reeves.
He was survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, two sisters, three grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in Redmen cemetery with Bobby Tatum officiating, under direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family received friends from 4:00-6:00 P.M., Monday, December 3 at the funeral home.
