Ernest C. Stow, 44, of Idabel died Thursday afternoon at his home of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound in his heart.

McCurtain County Medical Examiner Thomas E. Rhea said Stow died of apparently self-inflicted wounds, between 3 and 4 p.m. Thursday at his home of a .22 calibre gunshot wound. A .22 calibre pistol was found lying by his side.

Mr. Stow reportedly had been under the care of a psychiatrist for some time.

Funeral services for Ernest Stow were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. May 8, at the Central Baptist Church of Idabel with the Rev. Bill Merritt officiating. Burial in Lockesburg, Ark., was under the direction of Norwood-Welch Funeral Home.

Ernest Stow was born November 30, 1926 at Eagletown. He had lived in Idabel 10 years, moving from Bentonville, Ark. He was employed at a service station in Idabel.

A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty R. Stow; two sons, Dwane and Jerry, a daughter, Pamela, all of the home; three brothers, Norman Stow of Broken Bow, Oliver Stow of Queen City, Tex. and Virgil Stow of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a sister, Mrs. Ocie Laster of Broken Bow.

Betty Stow, 77, a longtime resident of Idabel, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2005, in Oklahoma City. She was born Dec. 14, 1927 in Bethany, Missouri, the daughter of Carl E. and Ida B. Laney Clayton.

Betty was a homemaker and a cafeteria worker for the Idabel Public Schools. She loved dining, and visiting with family and friends. Betty was a member of the Red Hats Club and the Singing Senior Choir. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Idabel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Stow in 1971; and a daughter, Pam Stow in 1982.

Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Pat Stow, Eugene, Ore. and Jerry and Diana Stow of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Brian Stow, Springfield, Ore., Angie Fodor, Auburn, Wash., Thomas Dwayne Stow, Oklahoma City and Amanda Stow, Oklahoma City; her brothers, Worth Clayton, Bentonville, Ark., Paul Clayton, Mesa, Ariz. and Ike Clayton of Los Angeles, Calif.; a special friend, Irene Houston, Idabel; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the Central Baptist Church, Idabel. Interment will follow in the Oddfellows Cemetery, Lockesburg, Ark.

Any contributions can be made to Central Baptist Church in memory of Betty Stow.
