After a long illness, Rose Darline McNeil went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 23, 2018 at the age of 83, while living in a retirement facility in Texarkana, Arkansas. She was born December 11, 1934 in Lecompte, Louisiana to Louis Edward and Rose Viola (Terrell) Williams.
Darline's 36-year career in elementary education began in Louisiana and concluded in Arkansas. The majority of her career was spent in the Ft. Smith (Ark.) School District where she taught and later became a principal. In 1990, she was named Principal of the Year. When she retired, Mayor Ray Baker declared May 21,1995 Darline McNeil Day in Ft. Smith.
Darline graduated from Glenmora (La.) High School where she was an honor student and was voted Most Beautiful. She studied to be a teacher at Louisiana Baptist College and Northwestern State University of Louisiana, and later earned a master's degree from Northwestern State. She received her principal's certification at the University of Arkansas Fayetteville.
After retiring, Darline moved to Tyler, Texas in 1999. She was a faithful member of Green Acres Baptist Church where she served as treasurer for the Joy Sunday School Class. While living at Hamilton Park, she was secretary of the Home Owners' Association Board and a teacher for the Tuesday morning Bible study. Darline's life was dedicated to serving the Lord and helping make life better for her family, friends, students, and educators.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Tommy Williams; sister, Shirley Blankenship; and brother-in-law, Frank Monroe.
She is survived by one daughter, Dianne Caron and her husband, Thomas, of Tyler; two sons - George McNeil of Tyler; Ken McNeil and his wife, Candy, of Maud, Texas; and one sister, Glenda Monroe of Pineville, Louisiana. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren - Leslie Caron; Joel Caron; Leigha Norton and husband, William; Lauren Terkel and husband, Mike; Natalie McNeil; Candice Shedlock and husband, Bubba; four great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
Funeral service will be Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. in the Texarkana Funeral Home Chapel with nephew, Rev. Ed Blankenship, officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens, Texarkana, Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held in Tyler Sunday, September 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hamilton Park Club House, 5401 Hollytree Drive with Brother Glenn Jones officiating.
