When Opal Jean Berry was born on March 25, 1916, in Craighead, Arkansas, her father, Mallard, was 33, and her mother, Mabel, was 24. She married Clarence Higgins on October 20, 1934, in her hometown. They had one child during their marriage. She died on May 4, 1996, at the age of 82, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
