Marion A. Bunyard, 81, went to join his Lord and Maker on April 21, 2004. Marion was born on Jan. 17, 1923, in Chautauqua County, Kan. His parents were Agnes Beaston Bunyard and Marion Bunyard Sr. He graduated from Chautauqua Rural High School in 1939, attended Coffeyville Junior College, then graduated from the University of Kansas in 1943. In 1947, he earned a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University. He also taught at Boston University while attending Harvard.

In 1941, Marion met Vivian Jean Zimmerman and they were married in Cambridge, Mass., on Oct. 23, 1943. Marion served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II for 14 months in the Philippines. He was attached to Seabee Unit 1067.

Marion held various positions with Western Auto Co. in Kansas, Missouri and Kentucky before opening his own Western Auto Store in Rogers, Ark. He and Vivian also formed and operated Bunyard Supply Co. and Bunyard Appliance and Furniture until 1988, when the business was sold to Mike Tucker. Marion continued to work for Tucker Appliances as their parts manager until his death.

Marion served in numerous leadership positions in several civic organizations including the Lions Club and the Rogers Industrial Development Corp. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and president of the Retail Merchant's Association. He was a member of the Rogers School Board for 13 years, eight of which he served as president. He was also appointed to the dealer advisory council for Magic Chef. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Marion was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. In his younger years, he also hunted and golfed.

Marion Bunyard was a pillar of the Rogers community. He enjoyed helping others. He was a beloved husband, devoted father and a loyal friend. He will be sorely missed.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian; his brother, Dr. Robert Bunyard and wife Jackie of La Jolla, Calif.; daughters, Darcy Brooks and husband Roger of Rogers, and Terry Bahnmaier and husband Bill and grandsons, Cory and Nathan Bahnmaier of Lenexa, Kan.; and brother-in-law, Bill Zimmerman and wife, Patsy of Fort Worth, Texas.

Services are scheduled to be held at First United Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 25, 2004, with the Rev. Davis Thompson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospital or the First United Methodist Church, c/o Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. Fourth St., Rogers, AR 72756.

Military honors will be provided by the Rogers American Legion Post 100.

ROGERS — Vivian Jean Bunyard, 92, of Rogers passed away Feb. 12, 2016, at Innisfree Nursing Home. She was born in 1923 in Coffeyville, Kan.

She is survived by her daughters; Teresa Bahnmaier and husband Bill; two grandsons Cory and Nathan Bahnmaier; a great-grandson Riley, all of Lenexa, Kan.; Darcy Brooks and husband Roger of Rogers and one brother Bill Zimmerman and wife Patsy of Fort Worth, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 61 years, Marion Bunyard. Together they built a business in downtown Rogers. Western Auto came first then Bunyard's Appliance and Furniture later to become Tucker's Furniture and Appliances.

Vivian worked many hours in the business keeping books and whatever needed doing. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and later First United Methodist Church and was always there for her family. She was active with Girl Scouts, MYF and PTA.

She was loved by her family and will be missed. No services are planned.
