HINDSVILLE — Carolyn S. Wheeler, 66, of Hindsville passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born Aug. 10, 1952, in Webb City, Mo., to Jim and Nellie Clayworth Reed.
Carolyn was a hairdresser for over 25 years at various shops. She graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelors in Social Work in 1995. She worked at the Washington County Area Agency on Aging in Fayetteville March 1996-April 2005. She then worked for the Schmieding Center in Springdale from May 2005-December 2014. She was a licensed social worker in the State of Arkansas. She was a Broyles Foundation Award Winner for her work in Alzheimer's, Dementia and Aging and Adult services. She was awarded the Martha Sue Curran Award for outstanding social work. She also taught aging and adult services in social work at the University of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Loren Wheeler of Hindsville.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Wheeler and wife Amanda of Springdale; Denny Wheeler and wife Liz of Hindsville; six grandchildren, Robert Murphy, Blaine Wheeler, William Wheeler, Lauren Fortenberry, Ashlyn Wheeler and Caleb Wheeler; a great-grandson, Devin Fortenberry; two brothers, Jim Reed and wife Sherrill of Springdale and Tim Reed and wife Debbie of Springdale; two sisters, Vicki Nighswonger and husband Brent of Springdale and Cyndie Lyon and husband Jim of Rogers. She is also survived by her stepfather, Edward Provost and her stepmother, Frances Reed; and numerous nieces and nephews plus great-nieces and great-nephews.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, but we know she's at home with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Her long struggle with illness is over and her Lord has healed her with her glorified body!
Funeral services will be at the Living Water Baptist Church in Huntsville on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2018, starting at 12 noon with Pastor Tim Gabbard, Pastor Gary Faulkner and Charlie Foster officiating. A visitation will take place from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the church prior to the service.
