When Sarah "Sallie" Ella Yancey was born on April 22, 1862, in Mississippi, her father, John, was 28, and her mother, Harriet, was 26. She married James Goodman Thomas on July 20, 1882, in Faulkner, Arkansas. They had nine children in 18 years. She died on October 19, 1936, in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 74, and was buried in Greenbrier, Arkansas.
