June 7, 1878 - July 13, 1956
James Thomas Moore, as a young man boarded and worked for Dr William H Butler, a prominent citizen of Logan County, Arkansas. He would hitch the horses to the buggy and drive the doctor from place to place when he was called out for sick folks in the community.
He and Millie, like many had a hard time during the "Great Depression". It was about this time Millie, became ill with heart problems. The doctor telling him it would help if they moved south. They left the farm moving to Ft Worth, Texas, where sons Oscar and Henry lived. Millie grew worse passing away about six after the move. He brought her body back to be buried in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
He never remarried and managed to raise several of the younger children with the help of his daughter, Mattie.
He left the mountains of Logan County, moving like many to the flat farmland of Lonoke County, Arkansas. There he sharecropped raising cotton and corn. One year the crops were bad and he accepted a load of pumpkins as payment. He learned many ways to fix pumpkin, as they had it for breakfast, dinner and supper. He lived in the area near Freda, Jefferson County, Arkansas that is near the Lonoke and Jefferson County line, until his death.
