Arlis Durning, 93, of Russellville, Arkansas formerly of Midway in Logan County, passed away Friday, January 18, 2008, at Legacy Lodge Nursing Home in Russellville. He was born in Midway on June 17, 1914, to George L and Sarah Louise Horn Durning. Arlis grew up in Midway and remained there until 1991 when he and his wife Margie moved to Russellville to be near family. Most of his working years were as a carpenter. He built houses in Fort Smith and Russellville and all in between. He enjoyed building and took great pride in his work. After retiring from carpentry work, Arlis helped in the community and church, continuing his handy work for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Margie Sanders Durning; his parents; two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lou Pickens of Russellville; granddaughters, Cindy (Micah) Martin of Dover and Suzanne Chambers of Greers Ferry, Arkansas; great-grandson, Bryan Turner of Greers Ferry; sister, Hazel Rhinehart of Paris; brother-in-law, Gene Sanders and his wife Ina Sue of Russellville; and several nieces and nephews.


Margie Sanders Durning, 86, of Russellville, Arkansas died on Sunday, November 6, 2005, in Russellville. Education: Paris High School graduate. Food service and school lunch management classes and workshops at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and Little Rock. Occupation: Food service for Paris Public Schools for 36 years. She was very interested in all school activities and most of the students knew her as "Miss Margie." She was preceded in death by her parents, John R and Mary Vassel Sanders; and six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, a brother, two grand children and one great-grandchild.
