When James Crittenden "Crit" Stamp and his twin brother James A were born on October 2, 1898, in Taylor, Kentucky, their father, Andrew, was 26, and their mother, Sarah, was 29. He married Estelle Shanklin on August 26, 1918, in Clark, Indiana. He died on August 27, 1969, in De Witt, Arkansas, at the age of 70.
