Thadys Smith, 75, of DeWitt, a retired farmer and co-owner of Smith and Jones Flying Service, died Feb. 27, 1989. Smith was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, charter member of DeWitt-St. Charles Hunting Club, past master of DeWitt Lodge 157, Eastern Arkansas Scottish Rites, past patron of the Order of Easter Star 436, Stuttgart Order of Eastern Star 102, Oak Hills Country Club, Tweenagers camping group, and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Funeral will be at 2:30pm March 1st at DeWitt First United Methodist Church by Revs. Tom Adkisson and Darci Caldwell. Buiral will be in Cedarcrest Memorial Park by Essex Funeral Home. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Irene Smith; a son, Albert Smith of St. Charles; a daughter, Mrs. Darlene S. Dupslaff of DeWitt; a sister, Mrs. Gladys Watson of DeWitt; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Irene Grandgeorge Smith, 84, passed away January 9, 1997 at DeWitt City Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thadys B. Smith, and two grandsons, Thad Allen Smith and Kelly Denton Dupslaff.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Gale Leslie of New Orleans, LA; one son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Sue Cooper Smith of DeWitt; seven grandchildren, Debbie Dillion of Arnissville, VA, Deniece Alred of Little Rock, Joel Smith of Atlantic Beach, NC, Linda Gunnell and Su-Aaron Travis both of DeWitt, John Leslie and James Leslie both of New Orleans, LA; five great-grandsons; and two sisters, Avene Smith of DeWitt and Cora Mae Coffelt of Carlisle.

Irene was a member of the First United Methodist Church at DeWitt , the Order of Easter Star, in which she served as Worthy Matron and as organist. She was a licensed pilot and was a member of the "99" Club", which is a flying association for women pilots. She was the author of two poem books and was working on her third book about one of the first air strips in South Arkansas county, known as the Smith and Jones Flying Service, which was the first flying service in South Arkansas county. Her latest honor was to be introduced into the Hall of Fame of Poetry.

Funeral services will be help today at 2pm at the First United Methodist Church in DeWitt; burial in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund and the DeWitt City Hospital.
