Dorothy Lois Henderson Schlenker, 87, of Tichnor passed away October 31, 2015. She was born April 16, 1928, in DeWitt to Joseph Marion Henderson, Sr. and Myrtle Lee Keaton Henderson.
Dorothy married L.W. "Bud" Schlenker on October 4, 1947. She enjoyed being a farmer's wife, and was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and quilter. Her grandchildren thought that she made the best pies and candied sweet potatoes. We loved looking at her quilts and picking out the pieces that came from our clothes. She faithfully attended Tichnor Baptist Church and played the piano there until her health began to fail.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 58 years, Bud Schlenker; granddaughter Loma Essex; four sisters Irene Landreth, Florence Gardner Cooper, Nina Maugans, and Eunice Henderson; and two brothers L.E. Henderson and Joe Henderson, Jr.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Joe Bill Schlenker and Teresa, and Gary Schlenker and Marilyn all of Tichnor and Connie Essex and Cooper of DeWitt. She was a loving Granny to her five grandchildren, Nancy Lively (Gary), Shannon Williams, Ashley Schlenker, Laura Essex, and Donnie Joe Williams (Michelle), and six great grandchildren Tanner Blumhorst, Josh and Hunter Lively, Carl Lester, and Kylee and Layton Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 3 at Essex Funeral Home with funeral services following at 10:00 a.m. in Essex Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Caring and Sharing Food Pantry, P.O. Box 8, DeWitt, AR 72042. www.essexfuneralhome.com
