June 4, 1889 - February 25, 1969
Volney C. Gatling, 80 of El Dorado, died in a hospital there Tuesday night. He was born June 5, 1889 to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gatling in Dallas County, and had lived in El Dorado for thirty years. Mr. Gatling was a locomotive engineer and retired from Lion Oil Company. He was a Mason, a member of Woodmen of the World, and a Presbyterian. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruth Jordan Gatling; two grandchildren, Mrs. Ted Bradshaw of Camden and Bob Gatling of Charleston, South Carolina; six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Funeral Chapel in EL Dorado. Burial will be in an El Dorado cemetery. (Camden News - February 26, 1969)
