Arvell Odell "Bad News" Hale was born August 10, 1908 in Hosston, Caddo Parish, Louisiana to James M. Hale and Ella Stanberry. He attended school here until he turned 17 and he went to work for an oil refinery in 1925/1926 and was employed by Lion Oil by 1930. This was the same year he married Miss Mable Jane Rainwater from Oklahoma. He began playing semi-pro baseball and played for the Alexandria Reds in 1929. He began his professional career by playing with the Cleveland Indians August 8, 1931. He was a second baseman and third baseman. He remained with with Cleveland from 1933 to 1940. He also played with the Boston Red Sox and ended his career with the New York Giants in 1941. Afterwards he worked at a defense plant in El Dorado. He died June 9, 1980 in El Dorado, Arkansas.
