Dorris Carter
October 10, 1925 - June 16, 2018
Dorris Carter, 92, of Hardy, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, at her home. She was born October 10, 1925, in Bernie, Missouri, and lived her childhood years in Corning, Arkansas, where she graduated from high school. She married John Frederick "Fred" Carter on March 7, 1943, and they had three children after his military service in World War II in the Pacific.

Dorris was a member of Hardy United Methodist Church for 71 years (WSCS, UMW, and choir), Sharp County Extension Homemakers for 60 years, and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for 40 years. She was active with her children in Sunday School, MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship), and summer Bible School as well as a room mother for all three in the Hardy School system. Her professional work included bookkeeper for Berry Oil Company and newspaper office manager for Spring River Times. She was a loving and concerned Christian daughter, sister, wife, mother (Mom), aunt, Granny, Great-Granny, and friend. Dorris particularly enjoyed and supported the Hardy Senior Citizens Center. One of her many civic "duties" included clerking at elections in Hardy.

Her cheerful smile and honest work ethic affected thousands in Sharp County and beyond. Those who had the opportunity will always remember her chicken and dumplings and pecan pies among many other wonderful foods. In her later years, she thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her sister and others. Dorris was truly loved by all.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William McKinley and Anna Farris (Alstadt) Smith; her husband, Fred, in 1998; sister, Bobbye Louise Harmon; son-in-law, Bruce Bostian; brothers-in-law, Charles Carter and Kenneth Harmon; sisters-in-law, Ethel Carter and Clara Jo Carter; nephews, Harry "Mac" Harmon and Jim Whiteside; and many good friends.

Survivors include her children: Johnny and Kathy, Elaine, Allen and Alice; grandchildren: Rick Bostian, Joy Carter, Ross & Misti Carter, Laura & Curt Lowry, Adam & Kasey Carter, Shelly & Aamir Chaney; great-grandchildren: Olivia, Rhett, Tressie, Cooper, Carter, Quinton, Claire, Addi, and Kali; nephews, Todd Harmon and Franklin Carter; and a multitude of other relatives and special friends.

Visitation of family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in Hardy United Methodist Church (102 E. 4th St., Hardy, AR 72542).

Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with Kay Brogdon, Paul Bokker, and Johnny Carter officiating. Burial will be in Hardy Cemetery. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jim Counts and Buddy Lynn.

In lieu of flowers, Dorris has encouraged donations to Hardy United Methodist Church building fund (102 E. 4th St., Hardy, AR 72542), Heifer Project International (1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202), and Methodist Children's Home (2002 Fillmore St., Suite B, Little Rock, AR 72204).
